RB Leipzig are set to sign Timo Werner in a permanent deal as the forward is keen to depart Chelsea to rekindle his World Cup hopes.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Timo Werner could soon be an RB Leipzig player, as the Bundesliga club are set to complete a permanent transfer for their former player. The forward is keen to depart Chelsea to reignite a chance to feature for Germany at the World Cup.

Timo Werner’s time at Chelsea is set to come to a premature end as the forward is keen to move on from Stamford Bridge immediately. Despite the Blues splashing around £45 million two years ago to sign the German international, things have not gone to plan.

When he departs, Werner will be the second high-profile forward to leave Stamford Bridge after £100 million signing Romelu Lukaku rejoined Inter Milan on loan earlier in the summer. Like Lukaku, Werner has been underwhelming despite heavy expectations placed on his shoulders to perform for Chelsea.

Werner has been gathering tremendous interest this summer after speculation surrounding his future began making the rounds in the media. Borussia Dortmund were keen earlier, but after that, RB Leipzig took the march to bring back their once prolific goalscorer.

The arrival of Raheem Sterling in the window all but ended his chances of regularly featuring for Chelsea in the new season. With the World Cup on the horizon, Werner must play regularly between now and the end of November to stand a chance to feature in Hansi Flick’s national squad.

Hence, a move away matters for Werner, with RB Leipzig set to sign the Chelsea star on a permanent move in the coming days. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the same via Florian Plettenberg, suggesting that final details are being discussed between the clubs.

Moreover, the report from Romano claims that personal terms were already agreed upon a month ago, with the move swiftly edging towards completion. The details of the transfer are still under wraps, although the deal could conclude imminently.

Chelsea already have a few players in mind as replacements, with one of their targets, Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, reportedly keen on a switch to Stamford Bridge. Whether Chelsea go about finding a suitable replacement in Zaha or someone else remains to be seen. In any case, the Blues are reportedly in the market for a central striker.
