Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi is reportedly in talks with German giants Borussia Dortmund over a potential loan switch this summer.

According to Sky Sports, Callum Hudson-Odoi is keen on leaving Chelsea this summer, having fallen out of favour at the club. And his representatives are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a loan move to Signal Iduna Park.

Hudson-Odoi is a product of the Chelsea youth academy, who burst onto the scenes during the 2018/19 campaign under then-manager Maurizio Sarri. The England forward attracted serious interest from Bayern Munich soon after making a splash at the first-team level, but former boss Frank Lampard fought hard to keep him at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues handing him a lucrative long-term deal.

However, Hudson-Odoi has failed to kick on as expected after his contract extension, largely bogged down by fitness issues. The 21-year-old has made 126 appearances for Chelsea so far, managing a poor return of 16 goals and 22 assists. He played just 15 times in the Premier League last season and is not entirely favoured by manager Thomas Tuchel.

With Raheem Sterling joining Chelsea this summer, Hudson-Odoi’s chances of playing regularly have taken a further hit, given that the likes of Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount are also ahead of him in the pecking order. Hence the 21-year-old is now seeking an exit from Stamford Bridge, with a loan move to Dortmund on the horizon.

Borussia Dortmund are looking to reinforce their frontline after the unfortunate development surrounding marquee signing Sebastien Haller, who is sidelined for the foreseeable future. While they are planning to bring in an out-and-out striker in the form of Anthony Modeste, the Black and Yellows are keen on adding more firepower to their frontline as they hope to topple Bayern Munich from their perch.

Hence, Hudson-Odoi has emerged as a possible option for Edin Terzic’s side, with talks between the player’s agents and the Bundesliga club currently in progress. Apart from Dortmund, the England international is also attracting interest from Premier League club Southampton, while Leicester City are also keen on the 21-year-old.

So, it remains to be seen if Hudson-Odoi decides to stay in the Premier League or move to Germany, following in the footsteps of Timo Werner, who is set to re-sign for RB Leipzig on a permanent transfer.
