Timo Werner keen on joining Real Madrid

Timo Werner is reportedly eager to join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding his future at Chelsea.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Timo Werner is keen on joining Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. The German international faces an uncertain future at Chelsea, who will demand around €35 million to part ways with him this month.

Timo Werner has failed to take his career to the next level since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig nearly two years ago. The 26-year-old had arrived at Stamford Bridge on the back of an excellent 2019/20 campaign with Leipzig but has failed to hit the ground running, struggling to be prolific thus far at the west London club.

The German international has only managed a sub-par tally of 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 outings thus far for Chelsea. And with the 2022 FIFA World Cup just a few months away, Werner might depart from Stamford Bridge to seek regular game-time. Such a situation has piqued the interest of Real Madrid.

Los Blancos seemed to have finished their summer transfer spending after bringing in Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco and former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger in a Bosman move. Carlo Ancelotti also insisted that Real Madrid would not sign another player in the ongoing window, but his tune has changed in the last couple of weeks.

Borja Mayoral has left Real Madrid permanently to join Getafe, and Mariano Diaz could also depart from the Santiago Bernabeu in the coming weeks. As a result, Real Madrid will have to delve into the market for a striker, with Werner popping up on their radar as a viable target. And the German international is reportedly keen on joining the Spanish giants.

Chelsea will demand around €35 million to part ways with Werner this summer, but recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will look to sign him on a season-long loan deal. The Merengues do not want to get stuck with an underperforming player, which is why they prefer a temporary move.

But with RB Leipzig keen on bringing Werner back to the Red Bull Arena, Real Madrid will have to be decisive in their approach. Their hopes of signing Werner, be it in a €35 million deal or on loan, will have been boosted by the Chelsea forward’s stance, thus setting up an intriguing transfer saga.
