Chelsea are reportedly set to hold talks with Inter Milan’s 19-year-old Italian whizkid Cesare Casadei over a possible move this summer.

According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Chelsea have identified Inter Milan midfielder Cesare Casadei as a target for the summer transfer window. The Blues are set to hold talks with the 19-year-old Italian whizkid’s entourage over a move in the ongoing transfer window.

Chelsea have been on the lookout for reinforcements in almost every department, with central midfield being one of them. Two of Chelsea’s senior midfielders, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, have entered the final year of their respective contracts and have also been linked with possible summer exits.

To prepare for the situation where they could lose one of the two players, the west London club have made a list of potential targets, which includes Casadei’s senior at Inter Milan, Nicolo Barella as well. Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong is also among the transfer targets for Chelsea.

The Dutch midfielder has been linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the summer transfer window, but Barcelona’s reluctance to pay his deferred wages has stalled the deal so far. Chelsea have now entered the race, with owner Todd Boehly reportedly holding talks with Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

However, the Blues have contingency plans in place should they fail to sign de Jong. Chelsea have already lost on a couple of their top transfer targets this summer and do not wish to take chances going forward.

Cesare Casadei has emerged as a potential option as well. The 19-year-old joined Inter Milan in 2018 and has been brilliant for the club’s junior sides. The Italian whizkid was on fire for their under-19 side last season, scoring 14 times and assisting four goals from the midfield in 30 league matches.

The report by Foot Mercato claims representatives from Chelsea have travelled to Milan to hold talks with the player’s entourage. Earlier reports claimed Chelsea will have to shell out €20 million to sign the young prodigy. Arsenal were also said to be monitoring Casadei’s situation.

The teenage whizkid is yet to make a senior appearance for Inter Milan but could be handed his first-team debut in the upcoming season. He still has two years left on his contract with the Serie A giants, but it remains to be seen if Chelsea will swoop him away.
