La Liga heavyweights Barcelona reportedly want to sign 25-year-old Spanish wide man Angelino on loan from RB Leipzig this summer.

According to Spanish outlet Futbol Total CF, Angelino is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible loan move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants have submitted a proposal to RB Leipzig for the 25-year-old wide man, viewed as an alternative to priority target Marcos Alonso.

Angelino has endured a topsy turvy ride in his professional career thus far, excelling during his stints with PSV Eindhoven and RB Leipzig while struggling at other times. The Spanish wide man has been with the Bundesliga outfit for a couple of years and has a solid record of 12 goals and 28 assists in 98 appearances.

But the 25-year-old has seen his stock drop in 2022, and Leipzig’s summer capture of David Raum has condemned him to become the back left wing-back at the Red Bull Arena. Angelino will thus leave the German club in all likelihood this summer, with Barcelona considering signing him.

Intermediaries recently offered Barcelona the chance to sign the Spaniard, with the Blaugrana yet to bring in a left-back, even though Xavi Hernandez has specifically asked for one this summer. With Jordi Alba the only recognised left-back in the Barcelona squad, the Catalan giants need to bolster the position.

Alejandro Balde is yet to settle down in the first-team squad at Camp Nou and might benefit from a loan spell away from Barcelona. Meanwhile, makeshift options like Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto have not worked, prompting Xavi to demand a new left-back, with Marcos Alonso reportedly the priority target.

But Chelsea might block the move for the Spanish international after getting disgruntled from Barcelona’s twin hijacks of their targets. Raphinha and Jules Kounde seemed to be closing in on joining Chelsea before Barcelona swooped in to secure their services. Angelino has thus emerged as a viable alternative. And according to Futbol Total, the Catalan giants have proposed a loan deal for the 25-year-old.

Barcelona will not include a mandatory purchase option clause in the loan deal, which might be a problem for RB Leipzig. But it will be interesting to see how the German giants respond to the offer from Barcelona to sign Spanish wide man Angelino on loan this summer.
