Chelsea have reportedly been told to shell out €50 million to sign Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries from Serie A giants Inter Milan.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Inter Milan have named their price for Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries, who is attracting interest from Premier League clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United. The Blues recently made an enquiry for the Dutchman and also had an offer being turned down, with the Serie A giants demanding €50 million for him.

Denzel Dumfries joined the Inter Milan last summer from PSV Eindhoven in a deal worth €13.7 million and was an instant hit. He became a mainstay in Simone Inzaghi’s team, making over 40 appearances for the Serie A giants from the right wing-back position. He also scored five goals while providing seven assists.

However, Inter Milan find themselves in a tricky financial situation and are in desperate need of selling some of their players to balance their books. Dumfries is not considered indispensable at San Siro, and reports claim the Serie A giants are prepared to sell him if the right offer arrives.

Manchester United were among the first clubs to show interest in Dumfries. Erik ten Hag is said to be keen to sign a right-back as he has not been convinced with the two options that the Red Devils currently have in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.

Manchester United were believed to be in the pole position to complete the Dutchman’s signature, but their interest eventually died down. Chelsea, who themselves are eager to strengthen their defence, entered the race and had a €30 million bid being turned down by Inter Milan.

The Blues could lose Cesar Azpilicueta to Barcelona this summer and want to find a replacement soon. They have zeroed in on the 26-year-old Dumfries but will need to improve their offer to stand a chance of signing him as Inter Milan are holding out for €50 million.

Chelsea and Inter have been involved in a summer transfer already, with Romelu Lukaku returning to Italy on a year-long loan deal. The Blues were also said to be interested in Milan Skriniar, but Paris Saint-Germain seem to have taken the lead in the race to sign him.
