Real Madrid will reportedly look to sign struggling Chelsea forward Timo Werner on a loan deal in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid will not look to sign Timo Werner on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions do not want to do a repeat of the Luka Jovic situation and will prefer to land the struggling Chelsea forward on loan.
Timo Werner has seen his stock plummet since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig nearly two years ago. The German international had arrived at Stamford Bridge on the back of a productive season in the Bundesliga. But he is yet to match his tally from the 2019/20 campaign despite spending two years at Chelsea.
While the 26-year-old has been one of the most productive players for Chelsea in the last two years, he has only managed a sub-par tally of 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 appearances thus far. And Werner faces an uncertain future at Chelsea following Raheem Sterling’s arrival from Manchester City, with his situation capturing the attention of Real Madrid.
The interest from Real Madrid stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the futures of Marco Asensio, Borja Mayoral and Mariano Diaz. So while Carlo Ancelotti had recently insisted that Real Madrid will not sign any more players in the summer transfer window, his tune has changed in the last few days.
But Los Blancos will only enter the market for an attacking reinforcement if Mariano and Mayoral leave. Nonetheless, Werner has emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, with recent reports claiming that intermediaries have reportedly offered the struggling Chelsea forward to the Spanish giants.
However, Real Madrid will not sign the 26-year-old on a permanent deal as they still have the epic failure of Luka Jovic’s stint fresh in their mind. The reigning La Liga champions instead want to secure the services of the Chelsea forward on a loan deal before considering whether to take him on permanently next summer.

But Real Madrid will have to be decisive in the race to sign Werner, with the German international emerging on the radars of several European bigwigs, including Juventus. It will be interesting to see what transpires in Werner’s future, with reports also claiming that Chelsea might keep hold of him amid their struggles to sign a striker.
