Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ready to rival Chelsea in the race to sign French defender Wesley Fofana, valued at €100 million by Leicester City.

According to French outlet Media Foot Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain have entered the race to sign Leicester City central defender Wesley Fofana. Chelsea are said to be in the race to sign the Frenchman as well, as they continue their hunt to sign another centre-back.

However, PSG have not made Fofana a top target, and Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar, who is also a target for Chelsea, continues to top their transfer wishlist. The Slovakian centre-back is expected to cost in the region of €60 million, and PSG are still trying to bring that price down.

As far as Fofana is concerned, Leicester City will only let the French defender leave if a suitor meets their valuation of €100 million. That is contrary to some recent reports that claimed the Foxes could be convinced by a fee of around €60 million, which is close to what PSG are hoping to pay for Skriniar.

Leicester City’s €100 million asking price has put PSG off, leaving Chelsea in the lead to secure the signature of the 21-year-old, who still has five years left on his contract with the Foxes. The Blues are desperate to sign at least two more central defenders this summer after losing their first-choice centre-backs as free agents.

Antonio Rudiger has joined Real Madrid, whereas Andreas Christensen has moved to Barcelona. Cesar Azpilicueta is on the Blaugrana’s radar as well, and an official approach for the Chelsea defender could be expected in the coming weeks.

Azpilicueta’s potential departure will leave the Blues extremely thin in the central defensive department. They have signed only Kalidou Koulibaly to address the situation, but Thomas Tuchel is keen to get two more signings to add reinforcement to the Chelsea defence.

As far as their pursuit of Fofana is concerned, Chelsea have reportedly agreed on personal terms with the French defender. However, their first offer was turned down by Leicester City, and they are now preparing a fresh bid to convince the Foxes.

Fofana has so far played 35 Premier League matches and has given a good account of himself in those appearances. It will be interesting to see if the emergence of PSG forces Chelsea to ramp up their efforts to sign the French defender.
