Chelsea are reportedly considering signing Jamie Vardy as Thomas Tuchel searches for options to resolve his attacking conundrum.

Dean Jones claimed on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel, Chelsea are considering signing veteran striker Jamie Vardy. However, whether Leicester City are open to a move remains unknown, as Thomas Tuchel seeks solutions to improve his frontline.

Jamie Vardy has been one of the most consistent goalscorers in the Premier League and has seemed destined to end his career with Leicester City. He helped the Foxes to an improbable Premier League title years ago and has been one of their best performers ever.

The former England striker may not be getting any younger, but the 35-year-old remains one of the most formidable goalscorers in the Premier League. Despite suffering injury setbacks, Vardy scored 15 goals in the Premier League and added two more in the EFL Cup last season.

The veteran striker has one more season left on his current Leicester City deal, and Chelsea are now reportedly considering making a last-ditch effort to sign him. Of course, it is pretty unprecedented to think the Blues will go for such a move, but it could be possible.

Chelsea have suffered multiple setbacks in pursuit of several transfer targets. However, regardless of whether those names involved a striker, the Blues are keen on bringing a leading forward to improve their attacking lineup ahead of the new season.

Having shipped out record signing Romelu Lukaku back to Inter Milan, there is a sizeable void to be filled in the frontline. Thomas Tuchel is keen on bringing in a formidable goalscorer, as the Chelsea manager is set to begin the season with Kai Havertz as his frontline option.

Timo Werner can also play in the position, but the German international could return to the Bundesliga amid heavy interest from RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund. Hence the links with Vardy make sense, as the veteran striker can provide a focal point for Chelsea.

The Blues did sign Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, but the England international cannot lead the line consistently throughout the season. Moreover, Vardy would be the ideal short-term solution for a team in a transitional period.

Whether Leicester City are open to letting their star striker leave at this window stage remains to be seen. Vardy has always been vocal about his loyalty to the Foxes, which was evident when he rejected Arsene Wenger’s approaches many years ago to join Arsenal.

However, if Chelsea offer him an attractive deal and a contract lasting a few years, a move becomes an attractive prospect for the veteran striker. Yet, nothing is clear at this stage, as the whole story could be speculation. Overall, he would be a good option for Chelsea, but at an advanced age and injuries taking a toll last season, Tuchel will have to think hard before making a formal approach.
