Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing struggling Chelsea forward Timo Werner in the summer transfer window.

According to reputed German journalist Christian Falk, Timo Werner is the subject of interest from Newcastle United over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The struggling German forward faces an uncertain future at Chelsea, who could cash in on him in the coming weeks.

Timo Werner joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig two years ago, arriving at Stamford Bridge on the back of a memorable 2019/20 campaign. But the 26-year-old has failed to stamp his authority at Chelsea, even though he has been one of their top scorers in each season he has turned out for the west London club.

Despite being one of the most productive performers for Chelsea in the last two seasons, the German international has a sub-par record of 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 appearances thus far. And according to widespread reports, Thomas Tuchel is not a fan of Werner, who might leave Chelsea this summer. Newcastle United could provide him with an escape route out of Stamford Bridge.

The Magpies have been eager to bolster their offensive unit this summer but have only managed to reinforce the backline thus far. Newcastle United’s attempts to sign a new attacker have been futile, with the Tyneside outfit missing out on Hugo Ekitike, who has joined Paris Saint-Germain.

Since failing to land Ekitike, several attackers have emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, including Chelsea prospect Armando Broja. And Newcastle might launch the offensive for another Chelsea forward, with Timo Werner the latest target for the cash-rich club this summer.

Christian Falk has not mentioned whether the Magpies want to sign Werner permanently or on a loan deal. But with Chelsea ready to cash in on the 26-year-old, the Blues might push for Werner to join Newcastle United for good in the summer transfer window.
