Arsenal have reportedly tabled a new contract offer for Bukayo Saka as they look to secure his long-term future amidst interest from Manchester City.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are ready to tie down Bukayo Saka to a new long-term contract to stave off suitors such as Manchester City. The Gunners have thus presented the England international a lucrative new deal which could see him more than double his current £70,000-a-week wages.

Saka has become a pivotal part of this Arsenal setup since breaking into the senior team under former manager Unai Emery in the 2018/19 season. Despite being only 20 years old, the versatile forward has racked up 131 appearances for the Gunners, chalking up a tally of 23 goals and 29 assists.

A regular in the England national team setup, Saka has 18 caps for the Three Lions and has netted four goals. Regarded as one of the brightest young footballers in the country, Saka has attracted the interest of Premier League champions Manchester City in the recent past.

Even though Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side have denied any interest in the 20-year-old, they are still believed to be keeping tabs on Saka, potentially as a long-term replacement for Raheem Sterling, who left Manchester City to join Chelsea earlier this month. And Arsenal want to ensure they do not lose the Hale End graduate to a rival club.

To that end, the north London club have been planning contract talks with Saka for some time now. And Arsenal have now tabled a bumper new deal for the England international, which could see him earn more than double what he currently pockets.

Saka still has two years left on his £70,000-a-week contract. As per the report, Arsenal have offered the 20-year-old a long-term deal which would take him closer to the club’s top earners in Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus, who are on deals worth £200,000 per week. Mikel Arteta sees the young forward as one of the core members of the team he is building at the Emirates, and the offer reflects his status in the squad.

Saka is yet to respond to the contract offer from Arsenal. But the Gunners’ camp is confident they can close the deal on the contract extension and seal the 20-year-old’s £100 million transfer value, helping them put off suitors such as Manchester City.
