Four clubs have reportedly established contact with Barcelona over a possible summer move for out-of-favour Spanish defender Oscar Mingueza.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Celta Vigo, Genoa, Hoffenheim and AEK Athens are all keen on signing Oscar Mingueza in the summer transfer window. The four clubs have contacted Barcelona to discuss a possible move for the 23-year-old defender.

Oscar Mingueza has been with Barcelona for a decade and a half following his arrival from Santa Perpetua in 2007. The Spaniard progressed through the ranks at the Catalan club’s famed academy La Masia but took his time to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Camp Nou.

Mingueza got his opportunity to play for Barcelona in the 2019/20 season, with their financial crisis forcing Ronald Koeman to promote the youngster. The 23-year-old has turned out 66 times for Barcelona thus far while chipping in with two goals and five assists. His versatility has made him a handy option for Barcelona, as he can play across the defensive line.

But Xavi Hernandez has deemed Mingueza surplus to requirements, and his stature reduced as the 2020/21 season progressed. The player is now an afterthought at Camp Nou, with Barcelona leaving him and four other players in Catalonia before departing to the USA for the pre-season campaign.

With Mingueza clearly not featuring in Xavi’s plans for the upcoming season, he needs to identify his next destination to continue his career and stand a chance to book his ticket for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And the 23-year-old has no shortage of suitors, with clubs like Marseille, Monza, and Girona showing interest in him.

According to Mundo Deportivo, four other clubs have joined the race to sign the Spanish defender, contacting Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. Celta Vigo, Genoa, Hoffenheim and AEK Athens all want to secure the services of Mingueza.

But the four clubs might hesitate in shelling out the required sums to prise the Spaniard away from Camp Nou in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Celta Vigo, Genoa, AEK Athens and Hoffenheim ramp up the efforts to sign Mingueza, and where the player looks to go after leaving Barcelona.
