Intermediaries have reportedly offered Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong, to Chelsea and PSG amid interest from Manchester United.
According to a report by ESPN, Frenkie de Jong’s representatives are attempting to lure Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain into the race to sign the Barcelona midfielder in the summer transfer window. The Dutch international is also a target for Manchester United but wants to join a club playing in the UEFA Champions League if forced to leave Barcelona.
Frenkie de Jong has become the central figure in Barcelona’s rebuild project, albeit not in the way he would have anticipated heading into the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old has been the pawn for Barcelona to move around while they try to get the squad in the right shape.
The Dutch midfielder’s salary is the biggest stumbling block for the Catalan giants and their bid to register their new signings. In addition, de Jong’s deferred wages are proving to be a problem for Barcelona, even after reportedly agreeing to a transfer fee with Manchester United.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have issues of their own in this transfer saga, as de Jong is reluctant to join a club not playing in the UEFA Champions League. So with his future up in the air and Barcelona desperate to offload him in the summer transfer window, his representatives have offered him to Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Both Chelsea and PSG have previously shown interest in de Jong but have not followed up with it by submitting offers to sign him. But the two European heavyweights could do with the Barcelona midfielder amid Manchester United’s struggles to secure his services this summer.
At Chelsea, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are on the wrong side of 30, with the latter also struggling with fitness issues lately. As for PSG, Les Parisiens have signed Vitinha from FC Porto, but there is still some way to go before the midfield unit is no longer the Achilles heel in their first-team squad.

But the report does not mention whether Chelsea and PSG are receptive to the offer of signing de Jong, which should give Manchester United some breathing room to finalise the deal to sign him. Meanwhile, Barcelona will continue to wait with bated breath to offload de Jong and register their new signings.
