Newcastle United are reportedly considering a summer move for Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak, who is being tracked by transfer chief Steve Nickson.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle United are internally discussing the possibility of signing Real Sociedad and Sweden centre-forward Alexander Isak as they continue to search for an alternative for Hugo Ekitike.

Newcastle United seemed to have a deal to sign Ekitike from Reims all wrapped up until the French youngster started to dither over a move, prompting the Magpies to end their pursuit of the striker. Since then, Eddie Howe’s side have been scouring the market for a new striker to bolster their frontline ahead of the upcoming season.

Newcastle United have Callum Wilson and Chris Wood as options in the No. 9 role. However, the former is struggling with injuries and the latter is not exactly a prolific goalscorer. And with both being 30 years old, the Tyneside outfit need to add another younger, more reliable option to lead their line for years to come.

This search has seemingly taken Newcastle United to Real Sociedad, with Alexander Isak emerging as a target. The report states that the Magpies’ head of recruitment, Steve Nickson, has been tracking the 22-year-old Swede for some time, and the club officials are discussing the possibility of a transfer.

Isak has been with Real Sociedad since 2019 when he arrived from German giants Borussia Dortmund. The Swede has established himself as one of the most reliable young strikers in La Liga and has made 128 appearances for La Real, scoring 43 and assisting eight more goals in all competitions.

Isak did not have the most prolific of campaigns last time out, as he finished with a tally of ten goals in 39 matches. However, the Swedish international continues to be linked with the biggest of clubs, including Newcastle United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal and reigning Spanish and European champions, Real Madrid.

Isak is contracted with Real Sociedad until the summer of 2026 and will not come cheap, although Newcastle should have the finances to pull off a deal. And it remains to be seen if the Toon launch a move for the 22-year-old striker or look at other options, with Chelsea prospect Armando Broja also on their radars.
