Barcelona prospect Alejandro Balde has reportedly popped up on the radar of La Liga club Getafe over a possible move this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alejandro Balde is the subject of interest from Getafe over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Azulones are closing in on securing the services of the Barcelona prospect ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Alejandro Balde spent his formative years with three clubs, with most of his youth career coming with Barcelona. The 18-year-old Barcelona native joined the Blaugrana as an eight-year-old in 2011 before rapidly progressing through the ranks, establishing himself as one of the most promising young prospects in the famous La Masia academy.

The teenage prodigy made his first-team debut for Barcelona in the early stages of the 2021/22 season before making six further appearances in the campaign. But Balde had to suffice with playing for Barcelona B for much of the recently-concluded term, leaving him frustrated over the lack of first-team opportunities.

Balde’s situation is unlikely to improve much in the upcoming season, even though he has several admirers within the club. With Barcelona hot on the heels of Marcos Alonso, Balde will likely remain a Barcelona B player unless he leaves in the summer transfer window. And Getafe could offer him first-team opportunities in the 2021/22 season.

Quique Sanchez Flores has only one left-back at his disposal, with Jonathan Silva the recognised full-back for the flank. And with the Getafe squad running thin, signing Balde from Barcelona might be just what the doctor ordered for the Madrilenian club ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Balde also seemed to be set to leave Barcelona on loan in the January transfer window before he chose to stay put at the Catalan club. But Getafe might succeed in prising the 18-year-old prospect away from Camp Nou in the summer transfer window, especially with Barcelona closing in on signing Alonso.

According to the update from Fichajes, the Azulones are edging closer to landing the teenage prodigy from their fellow La Liga club. Coincidentally, Chelsea also showed interest in Balde, but those rumours died down quickly. It will be interesting to see if this move sees the light of day, enabling Balde to kick-start his professional career.
