Francisco Trincao is on the verge of completing a move to Sporting CP, with the Portuguese giants set to shell out €10 million for the Barcelona forward.

According to a report by Portuguese publication Record, Francisco Trincao will complete a permanent move to Sporting CP in the summer transfer window instead of switching on loan. The Portuguese giants are landing the 22-year-old in a €10 million deal, with Barcelona retaining 50 per cent of his rights.

Francisco Trincao moved to Barcelona two years ago following a breakthrough 2019/20 campaign with SC Braga. But the Portuguese forward struggled to stamp his authority in his debut season at Camp Nou, prompting the Blaugrana to ship him out on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer.

The 22-year-old’s fortunes did not improve significantly at the Molineux either, as he managed only three goals and an assist in 30 appearances for the Black Country outfit. Trincao is now back at FC Barcelona but does not seem to have much of a future at Camp Nou. And the player will likely leave Barcelona on a permanent deal this time, with Sporting CP his next destination.

Sporting CP first showed interest in Trincao around March, and they have stepped up their efforts to secure his services since then. Ruben Amorim is overseeing significant changes to his squad in the summer transfer window, and he wants to bring in a wide attacker ahead of the 2022/23 season.

To that end, Sporting CP and Barcelona have been negotiating a deal for Trincao for several weeks, with the terms of a possible move changing every few days. The Portuguese giants initially wanted to sign the Barcelona forward on a loan deal and submitted several offers to prise him away from Camp Nou.

The 22-year-old seemed set to move to the Jose Alvalade Stadium on a loan deal, but Sporting and Barcelona have negotiated different terms in the last few days. Trincao is now on the verge of joining the Verde e brancos on a permanent deal worth €10 million.

In addition, Barcelona will retain 50 per cent of his rights, meaning they stand to pocket half of the transfer fee from any future sale. The Catalan giants seem to have negotiated a handy deal, and it will be interesting to see how much they benefit from it in future.
