La Liga champions Real Madrid reportedly have no interest in bringing PSG defender Sergio Ramos back to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid will not launch the offensive to re-sign Sergio Ramos in the summer transfer window. The Spanish international could soon be surplus to requirements after Paris Saint-Germain appointed Christophe Galtier as the new manager.

Sergio Ramos is one of the greatest defenders of his generation, with the veteran star achieving unprecedented success at the club and international levels in the last two decades. The 36-year-old started his career as a right-back at Sevilla before remodelling himself as a top-class centre-back following his move to Real Madrid in a then-record fee for a Spanish defender.

Ramos spent 16 years at Real Madrid, slowly growing in stature before succeeding Iker Casillas as the club captain. The Spanish international is one of the most successful players in Real Madrid’s storied history and turned out 671 times for Los Blancos while chipping in with a staggering 101 goals and 40 assists.

Ramos’s glittering stint with Real Madrid ended last summer after the two parties failed to reach an agreement over the terms of a new contract. The player subsequently joined Paris Saint-Germain in a Bosman move, but the transfer has not worked out thus far.

Ramos spent most of the 2021/22 season on the sidelines due to a spate of fitness issues that restricted his involvement. The 36-year-old finally regained full fitness towards the end of the campaign, but his future remains up in the air following Christophe Galtier’s appointment as the new PSG head coach.

But with Presnel Kimpembe facing an uncertain future at Parc des Princes amid links with Chelsea, PSG will unlikely cash in on Ramos at the same time. And Real Madrid will not launch the offensive for their former captain in the summer transfer window, meaning he could stay at PSG.

The Spanish giants have signed Antonio Rudiger in a Bosman move this summer, and the need to sign a new centre-back has disappeared. But it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Ramos amid rising uncertainties surrounding his future at PSG.
