Barcelona will reportedly ask suitors to fork out €20 million to sign 21-year-old American defender Sergino Dest this summer.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Sergino Dest is in the market in the summer transfer window and could leave once the second economic lever comes into effect. Barcelona will demand €20 million to part ways with the 21-year-old defender but will happily settle for €17 million.

Sergino Dest joined Barcelona from Ajax in October 2020, with the Blaugrana hoping to have finally landed a long-term successor for Dani Alves. But while the USMNT international has shown signs of progress in the last couple of seasons, his inconsistent performances have not helped his case.

Xavi Hernandez did not utilise Dest regularly in the recently-concluded season, even though Barcelona struggled to perform at the peak of their powers. The 21-year-old started just 23 of the 53 games that Barcelona played this past term and finds himself staring at an uncertain future at Camp Nou in this summer’s transfer window.

Barcelona initially thought about parting ways with Dest in the summer transfer window while keeping hold of Dani Alves, who returned to Camp Nou for a second spell this past winter. But Alves recently announced his departure from Barcelona for the second time, leaving the right-back slot thin on options.

Nonetheless, the Catalan giants remain steadfast in their stance on Dest’s future, and they are ready to cash in on him in the ongoing transfer window. The 21-year-old is on the transfer market, with Barcelona demanding around €20 million to part ways with him this summer.

Dest has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, with Sevilla recently demanding him in the deal to sell Jules Kounde to Barcelona. But selling Dest without bringing in a replacement will be a foolhardy decision from Barcelona, especially considering the only other right-back at Xavi’s disposal is Sergi Roberto.

That is perhaps why Barcelona will only sell Dest after activating the second economic lever, perhaps after bringing in Cesar Azpilicueta or another right-back target. And while Barcelona will look to recoup €20 million from Dest’s sale, they will be happy to sell the 21-year-old if a suitor shells out €17 million for him.
