Francisco Trincao is reportedly set to complete a loan move to Sporting CP, with the Portuguese giants likely to reserve the option to sign him permanently.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Francisco Trincao’s frustrating spell with Barcelona is on the cusp of ending in the summer transfer window, albeit temporarily. The 22-year-old will join Sporting CP on an initial loan deal, with the Portuguese giants having the option to sign him permanently for €20 million.

Francisco Trincao was one of the most promising young wingers in Portugal when he joined FC Barcelona from SC Braga two years ago. But the Portuguese forward’s growth has stunted in the last couple of seasons, as he has failed to perform consistently while constantly being in and out of the starting lineups.

After Trincao struggled to make a mark in his debut season with Barcelona, the Blaugrana shipped him out on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer. Barcelona had hoped to see the 22-year-old grow in confidence while making a case to become a regular at Camp Nou in the 2022/23 season.

But Trincao continued to blow hot and cold at the Molineux, managing only three goals and an assist in 30 appearances for the Black Country outfit. Now back at Camp Nou, the youngster does not have much of a future with Barcelona, who will send him out on loan again this summer, with Sporting CP keen on signing him.

The interest from Sporting first emanated in March, and the Portuguese giants have made giant strides in the pursuit of the Barcelona forward. Sporting and Barcelona have been negotiating terms over a possible loan move in the summer transfer window for weeks. And the two clubs seem to have finally reached an agreement.

The Verde e brancos submitted a fresh offer to sign Trincao earlier this week. And that seems to have done the trick. Trincao is now on the verge of completing a season-long loan move to the Jose Alvalade Stadium, with Sporting CP reserving the option to sign him permanently for €20 million.

It will be interesting to see if Trincao can rediscover his best form after returning to his homeland in the summer transfer window. For now, the 22-year-old is on the cusp of joining Portuguese giants Sporting CP on loan from Barcelona.
