Sam Edozie set to join Bayer Leverkusen; CJ Egan-Riley poised to join Burnley

Bayer Leverkusen are on the verge of signing Manchester City prospect Sam Edozie, while CJ Egan-Riley closes in on a move to Burnley.

The Manchester City academy has transformed into a breeding ground for budding young talents looking to make their mark in European football. In recent years, the academy has lost a host of hidden gems, including Jadon Sancho. As per Fabrizio Romano, they are set to lose another prospect to the Bundesliga, as Samuel Edozie closes in on a move to Bayer Leverkusen.

A native of London, Edozie began his youth career at Millwall before he joined Manchester City in 2019. During his time in the club’s training facility, the young winger has earned a lot of reputation for his raw pace and ability to make life difficult for the opposing defenders.

Edozie also brings versatility to the table, as he can operate anywhere across the frontline. But after a couple of fruitful years in the Manchester City youth setup, the 19-year-old is prepared to make his professional breakthrough by joining Bayer Leverkusen ahead of the new season.

Die Werkself have raised a lot of eyebrows by roping in Adam Hlozek while extending the contract of Patrik Schick. The addition of Edozie could further strengthen their attacking unit and help the factory giants compete for the top four places in the Bundesliga next season.

CJ Egan-Riley close to completing Burnley switch

In another notable departure from the Manchester City academy, Burnley are closing in on the capture of CJ Egan-Riley. The 19-year-old is a centre-back, who is regarded as one of the biggest defensive prospects in the Manchester City academy.

Standing at 1.83m, the teenage sensation is also a regular with the England youth international teams, having established himself as one of the finest in the Manchester City academy.

Vincent Kompany, who has become the coach of Burnley this summer, is well aware of Egan-Riley’s rapid rise to prominence in recent years. The former Manchester City captain has played a valuable role in convincing the youngster to move to Turf Moor, although the deal has not yet been finalised.

With James Tarkowski and Ben Mee leaving Burnley at the end of the month, Egan-Riley could have a real shot at becoming a first-team regular for the Clarets next season. A breakthrough in the Championship could be a step in the right direction, as far as his progress is concerned.
