La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly ready to offer veteran Argentine forward Angel Di Maria a deal worth €5 million per year.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez, the talks between Barcelona and Angel Di Maria seem to be accelerating. The Catalan giants have offered the veteran Argentine forward a contract worth €5 million per year to complete a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

Angel Di Maria has been one of the most enterprising forwards in Europe over the past decade and a half. The 34-year-old has enjoyed success with Benfica, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, with only the spell with Manchester United being a dud during his professional career in Europe.

The Argentine international will become a free agent after departing as a free agent from PSG, where he amassed 93 goals and 119 assists in 295 appearances in the last seven years. And Di Maria’s availability on a Bosman move has captured the attention of several high profile clubs in Europe, including Barcelona.

Di Maria first offered his services to Barcelona after confirming his departure from PSG as a free agent. But while the Catalan giants were not receptive to the opportunity, to begin with, they have turned a corner in the past week, if recent reports are to be believed.

Barcelona and Di Maria have reportedly initiated discussions over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window, with the veteran Argentine forward ready to snub Juventus to move to Camp Nou. And the interest from Barcelona has now accelerated further.

The Blaugrana will soon offer Di Maria a contract worth €5 million per year, with a further €2 million being add-ons. The 34-year-old will look toward the proposal positively, meaning the ball is in Barcelona’s court to proceed further in talks. And with Ousmane Dembele’s future increasingly uncertain, Barcelona will have to ramp up the efforts to bring in a replacement.

Raphinha is the priority target for the Catalan giants, but Leeds United’s price tag could restrict them from launching the offensive for the Brazilian international. Di Maria is thus a viable target for Barcelona, and it will be interesting to see if offering the €5 million-a-year deal does the trick.
