Barcelona and former Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria are reportedly in contact to discuss a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

According to Relevo, Angel Di Maria is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The former Real Madrid forward is in contact with the Blaugrana and is eager to return to Spain in the final phase of his career.

Angel Di Maria has enjoyed a storied professional career laden with over two dozen major trophies. The 34-year-old has represented European stalwarts like Benfica, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, spending the last seven years in Paris after joining Les Parisiens from Manchester United.

The Argentine international amassed 93 goals and 119 assists in 295 appearances in the last seven years at PSG. But Di Maria’s stint with the Ligue 1 heavyweights will end in the summer transfer window, as he will become a free agent in July. And the former Real Madrid forward could return to La Liga by joining Barcelona.

Recent reports had claimed that Di Maria had offered himself to Barcelona as he is keen on returning to Spain in the final phase of his career. The development was shocking, considering the veteran winger spent four memorable years at Real Madrid, winning the UEFA Champions League, among other trophies.

But Di Maria intends to play at the highest level in the 2022/23 season, with Mundo Deportivo suggesting that he had been waiting for an approach from Barcelona. It now looks like Barcelona could sign the former Real Madrid forward in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

The Blaugrana will need to invest in a wide-attacker as Ousmane Dembele looks destined to depart from Camp Nou as a free agent. While Raphinha is Barcelona’s priority candidate to replace the French international, the Brazilian might be too expensive for them amid their continued financial woes.

Di Maria is thus a viable option to be Dembele’s short-term replacement before the Catalan giants return to the market a few years later with renewed hope of spending big on players. The former Real Madrid forward and Barcelona are in talks over a free transfer, and a summer move might be on the cards.
