Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly slapped a €25 million price tag on Steven Bergwijn, who is a top transfer target for AFC Ajax.

According to ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur are demanding a transfer fee of around €25 million for AFC Ajax target Steven Bergwijn, who is keen on making the move back to the Netherlands.

Bergwijn joined Tottenham Hotspur from Ajax’s arch-rivals PSV Eindhoven in the winter window of 2020. The 24-year-old made an explosive start to life in north London under then-manager Jose Mourinho but has failed to build on it and finds himself staring at an exit in the summer.

Indeed, Bergwijn has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham, especially once Antonio Conte took over the reins and signed Dejan Kulusevski in the January window. The Netherlands international did not start a single game since late January when Spurs lost to Chelsea.

Keen on reviving his career, Bergwijn is looking to move away from Tottenham, and Ajax are ready to hand him an escape route this summer. The Dutch champions held an interest in the Spurs forward in the January window and even lodged two offers, both of which were knocked back by the Lilywhites.

Despite the change in managers, Ajax remain keen on signing Bergwijn and had made another bid less than €20 million, which was knocked back by Tottenham earlier this week.

Tottenham are open to sanctioning an exit for the Dutch forward, who starred for the Netherlands in their recent 4-1 win over Belgium in the UEFA Nations League. However, they remain keen on recouping most of the €30 million they paid PSV to sign him over two years ago.

To that end, the north London club have slapped a price tag of €25 million on Bergwijn. The report claims that the 24-year-old is keen on returning to his homeland and signing for Ajax. It has even been claimed that personal terms over a five-year deal could be agreed upon between the two parties.

But, any move would depend on Ajax raising their offer for Bergwijn as negotiations continue between the two clubs. Whether Tottenham stand firm on their €25 million valuation or lower the asking price remains to be seen.
