Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Isco in a Bosman move after he leaves Los Blancos this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Isco is the subject of interest from Newcastle United over a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish midfielder will leave Real Madrid as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30.

Isco was one of the most prodigious young midfielders in Europe when he joined Real Madrid from Malaga in 2013. The 30-year-old has since spent nearly a decade at the Santiago Bernabeu but has failed to hit the heights that his potential promised when he arrived in the Spanish capital.

Isco’s case has not been helped by the presence of Real Madrid stalwarts like Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro, with opportunities coming few and far between. During his stint with Real Madrid, the Spaniard still made an impression, turning out 353 times for Los Blancos while chipping in with 53 goals and 56 assists.

But Isco’s spell with Real Madrid will officially end in July, with the experienced midfielder announcing his departure from the Santiago Bernabeu this week. And the player’s next destination could be Newcastle United, with the Magpies keen on bringing him to England.

The Tyneside giants will continue their squad evolution in the summer transfer window. Eddie Howe is looking to oversee a gradual rise through the Premier League standings in the coming years. And midfield reinforcement will be one of the priorities for Real Madrid, despite the remodelling and resurgence of Joelinton.

While Bruno Guimaraes’s addition has transformed the Newcastle United midfield, Howe will need another top-class midfielder at his disposal to enhance his team’s status. To that end, the Magpies have shown interest in several central midfielders, with Lucas Paqueta emerging as the chief target.

Isco is also a viable target for Newcastle United, even though the Real Madrid midfielder will be a short-term solution compared to Paqueta. And while money will unlikely be an issue for Newcastle, Isco’s availability as a free agent can help them focus their funds on other departments, with a top-quality striker atop their wishlist.

Meanwhile, Isco is on the radars of several Spanish clubs, including Real Betis and Sevilla, meaning the race to sign the 30-year-old could be intriguing. The emergence of Newcastle United changes things, and the Real Madrid midfielder might be moving to St. James’ Park soon.
