Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are reportedly vying for the signature of Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu, a target for Chelsea.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are involved in the transfer tussle to sign Caglar Soyuncu from Leicester City in the summer transfer window. The Turkish centre-back is also a target for Chelsea, and the Foxes could allow him to depart from the King Power Stadium.
Caglar Soyuncu joined Leicester City from SC Freiburg in August 2018 and has since endured a topsy turvy ride at the King Power Stadium. The 26-year-old has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League at times while performing extremely poorly on other occasions.
The Turkish international has turned out 123 times for Leicester City thus far, chipping in with three goals and one assist. But Soyuncu could be approaching the end of his time at the club after dropping down the pecking order towards the final stages of the 2021/22 season. But the player has no shortage of suitors, with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea keen on signing him.
The interest from Real Madrid is a bit surprising, considering Antonio Rudiger is on the verge of sealing a Bosman move from Chelsea in the summer transfer window. The German international’s arrival will leave Carlo Ancelotti with enough centre-backs at his disposal, alleviating the need for Soyuncu.
That might explain why the report touts Atletico Madrid to be the main contender to sign the 26-year-old. The Colchoneros will likely have to replace Felipe, while Jose Maria Gimenez has popped up on the radars of several Premier League teams, including Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking of Chelsea, the Blues will have to delve into the market for a centre-back, considering Rudiger will soon move to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen will likely complete a free transfer to Barcelona. The duo’s departure will leave Thomas Tuchel short of central defensive options, making Soyuncu a viable target.
Apart from Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea, the Turkish defender is also a target for Juventus, Manchester United and Barcelona. But with Atletico Madrid leading the race to sign him, it will be interesting to see if the other suitors can usurp Los Rojiblancos to secure the services of Soyuncu.
