Arsenal will reportedly rival Barcelona and Chelsea in the race to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Robert Lewandowski is the subject of interest from Arsenal over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Bayern Munich striker is also a target for Barcelona and Chelsea, with the former being his preferred destination.

Robert Lewandowski is one of the greatest strikers of his generation, with the Polish international creating a lasting legacy in the Bundesliga in the past decade and more. The veteran forward has particularly been sensational during his ongoing eight-year stint with Bayern Munich, where he has often scored goals for fun.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant 2021/22 campaign, amassing 50 goals and seven assists in 46 appearances across all competitions. But Lewandowski is hoping to leave Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window after confessing that he wants one last challenge in his career. And such a development has captured the attention of several clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Barcelona will delve into the market for a striker in the summer transfer window, with Xavi Hernandez likely to lose Martin Braithwaite and Luuk de Jong from his squad. While Braithwaite wants to feature prominently and will seek a summer exit from Camp Nou, de Jong will return to Sevilla for good. Lewandowski has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona.

As for Chelsea, the Blues might offload Romelu Lukaku following the Belgian international’s endless struggles this season. In addition, Timo Werner faces an uncertain future at Chelsea, with Bayern Munich coincidentally eyeing him as a possible replacement for Lewandowski. The Pole is thus an option worth considering for the Blues.

Meanwhile, Arsenal might go into their pre-season campaign without a natural striker, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona this past winter, while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah will see their contracts run out next month. While the Gunners are keen on keeping hold of Nketiah, they will still need to invest in a top-class striker, with Lewandowski a solid target.

But while Arsenal and Chelsea could rival Barcelona in the pursuit of Lewandowski, the 33-year-old striker only wants to join the Blaugrana in the summer transfer window. Recent reports have also claimed that he is prepared to snub Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain to move to Camp Nou.

But a transfer will hinge on Barcelona and Bayern Munich agreeing to a fee, which might be a tall order for the Catalan giants. The Bundesliga champions have publicly asserted that they want to keep hold of Lewandowski despite his intentions to depart from the Allianz Arena, meaning a long-drawn transfer saga could be on the cards.
