Manchester United are reportedly set to face fresh competition from Paris Saint-Germain in the pursuit of Nordi Mukiele.

According to Foot Mercato, Manchester United are among the clubs tracking the situation of Nordi Mukiele. The RB Leipzig utility man may leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season, with the Premier League giants more than prepared to snap him up on a cut-price deal this summer.

Mukiele’s current contract at Leipzig expires at the end of next season, meaning the Bundesliga giants could be forced to offload him at a discounted price. It could bode well for Manchester United, although it appears they are set to face fresh competition from PSG, while Atletico Madrid are involved in the equation as well.

A right-back by trade, Mukiele is a versatile defender who can operate as a centre-back in a back three. He is adept in rotating possession in tight spaces and has the knack for scoring goals thanks to his ability to make bombarding runs forward.

During his time in the Bundesliga, the Frenchman has established himself as a vital cog in the RB Leipzig backline. He has racked up close to 150 competitive appearances for the club, playing a key role in helping Die Roten Bullen vie to be the second-best team in Germany.

Mukiele’s qualities appear to have left Manchester United impressed. Amid uncertainties over the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who could rejoin Crystal Palace at the end of the season, the Red Devils are in the market for a new right-back who can offer competition for Diogo Dalot.

Mukiele fits the bill well for Manchester United as Ralf Rangnick, who will continue to play a key consulting role at Manchester United despite being appointed as the Austria head coach, is well aware of his qualities and could help Erik ten Hag bring the best out of the French utility man.

PSG, meanwhile, are keen on signing a backup for Achraf Hakimi. The club’s sporting director Leonardo Araujo is preferably looking for a player who is capable of operating both as a right-back and a centre-back.

Atletico Madrid are another club involved in the race to sign Mukiele. Having lost Kieran Trippier in January, the Spanish giants could be in a position to offer regular game-time to the RB Leipzig star, so it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the summer, as he looks to take the next step in his career, possibly by leaving the Bundesliga club.
