Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries is on Manchester United’s transfer wishlist with incoming manager Erik ten Hag an admirer of the defender.

Italian outlet Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) reports that Manchester United’s incoming manager Erik ten Hag is eyeing a move for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries. The Dutch tactician has reportedly placed Dumfries at the top of his right-back wishlist as he prepares to take the club back to the upper echelons of European football.

Ten Hag will have Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot as his two right-back options when he arrives at Old Trafford. And while there is little clarity over which of the two players the current Ajax manager will prefer at Manchester United, he has reportedly identified Dumfries as a suitable option for his system.

Currently at Inter Milan, the Dutch international moved to Italy just last season in a €15 million move from PSV Eindhoven. He has made 41 appearances for the Serie A champions across competitions, scoring five and assisting seven goals. His form for the Nerazzurri has convinced ten Hag to pursue the 26-year-old.

The aforementioned report claims that despite signing him last summer, Inter Milan are willing to listen to offers and could let him leave if the right one arrives. If the Tuttosport report is anything to go by, the Italian giants are expecting a bid in the region of €35 million for Dumfries.

At just 26 years of age, Dumfries can serve the club for years to come and the price tag shouldn’t deter Manchester United either, especially if ten Hag has identified him as his preferred right-back. The Dutch tactician was reportedly willing to bring Noussair Mazraoui with him to Old Trafford, but the Moroccan international has snubbed the 20-time English champions in favour of Bayern Munich.

With Dumfries now reportedly his preferred right-back signing, Manchester United will want to do everything possible to get the deal through. The 26-year-old will still have three years remaining on his contract with Inter after the ongoing season which justifies the price tag the Nerazzurri have reportedly slapped on him.

It will be interesting to see if they press ahead with their pursuit of Dumfries or decide to look for alternatives, with Norwich City’s Max Aarons also an option on Manchester United’s radar.
