Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly keeping tabs on Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount.
As per reports in The Sun, Liverpool and Manchester City are monitoring Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount’s situation in London. The economic sanctions imposed on Chelsea are stopping them from offering new deals to their star players, and Mount is one such name.
The English international will have just two years left on his contract with the Blues after the ongoing season, and the west London club are eager to tie him down to a longer deal. One of the most influential players at Chelsea, the 23-year-old is not one of the biggest earners at the club. He is reportedly on £70,000-a-week in wages.
With sanctions preventing Chelsea from offering Mount a much-improved deal, which his performances certainly deserve, Liverpool and Manchester City are looking to take advantage of the situation. Both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are reportedly big admirers of the English international and have asked their respective boards to keep a close eye on his situation.
Chelsea were reportedly close to offering a new, improved deal to Mount just before the sanctions imposed on their beleaguered owner Roman Abramovich. The development hampered the Blues’ quest of tying down quite a few of their players to longer contracts. They are resigned to losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free deals this summer.
The report states that Liverpool and Manchester City are not in a position to make an approach for the 23-year-old’s signature. However, should Chelsea fail to offer Mount an extension, and he enters the January window with just over a year remaining on his contract, things could exciting.
Newcastle United are also said to be monitoring the playmaker’s situation. Manager Eddie Howe has been a long-standing admirer of Mount and even tried to sign him on loan at Bournemouth. The Chelsea talisman has also been linked with Barcelona.
The Magpies, too, would be able to offer the English international a lucrative contract, along with Liverpool and Manchester City, which could be detrimental to Chelsea’s hopes of keeping hold of their academy product for long.
