Real Madrid closing in on signing Antonio Rudiger

La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly closing in on securing the services of Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger in a Bosman move this summer.

According to a report by reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Antonio Rudiger is on the verge of sealing his exit from Chelsea as a free agent in the summer transfer window. The German international will likely join Real Madrid in a Bosman move, with the agreement between the two parties close.

Antonio Rudiger has turned his career around superbly in the last 15 months, transforming into one of the most dependable defenders in Europe. So it is hardly surprising that with his Chelsea contract set to run out in a little over a year, clubs across Europe are clamouring to secure his services in a Bosman move.

To date, the German international has turned out 196 times for Chelsea, chipping in with 12 goals and seven assists in the process. But the Blues are resigned to losing their prized as a free agent in the summer transfer window. And the 29-year-old’s next destination seems to be Real Madrid, with the two parties closing in on sealing an agreement.

Recent reports have claimed that Rudiger dreams about joining Real Madrid, who will need a central defensive reinforcement in the summer transfer window. The Chelsea defender will add to Carlo Ancelotti’s options at the heart of the defence, with very little quality beyond Eder Militao and David Alaba at the moment.

With Nacho merely a backup option and Jesus Vallejo set to call it quits at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Merengues need to bolster their central defensive options. Real Madrid thus decided to table an improved contract offer to Rudiger, and that seems to have done the trick for the Chelsea defender.

The two parties are now set to reach a pre-contract agreement, with Rudiger rebuffing Manchester United, Juventus, and other clubs to seal a move to Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Chelsea will need to sign a replacement as soon as possible, although their current ownership predicament hampers them greatly.

As things stand, Rudiger’s stint with Chelsea will end in the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid his next destination in a Bosman move. Who the Blues sign as Rudiger’s replacement will be interesting to see.
