Swansea City are reportedly monitoring Chelsea prospect Ethan Ampadu as they ponder signing him on a loan deal in the summer transfer window.

According to an exclusive report from Football League World, Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu has emerged as a loan target for EFL Championship club Swansea City, who are tracking the 21-year-old prospect.

A product of the Exeter City youth academy, Ampadu made his first-team bow for the club aged just 15 and featured 13 times for the senior team. He signed for Chelsea in 2017, when he was just 16 years old. The versatile defender, who can play as a holding midfielder and a right-back, was handed his debut for the Blues by Antonio Conte in December 2017.

Over the next couple of seasons, Ampadu made 12 first-team appearances for Chelsea before eventually leaving for RB Leipzig on loan in 2019. He hardly featured for the German outfit during the season but gave a good account of himself on loan at Sheffield United during the 2020/21 season.

Ampadu was again on the move last summer, signing for Italian club Venezia on a season-long loan deal. The 21-year-old has been a regular in the side for the Serie A outfit, featuring 24 times in the Italian top flight, registering three assists.

Chelsea are aware of the immense potential that Ampadu possesses and want him to continue developing by playing regularly. With game-time unlikely to come at Stamford Bridge, the west London giants are open to loaning the Wales international for another season later this year.

It has alerted Swansea City, who are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old and are interested in signing him on a temporary deal. The Swans are showing signs of progress under the tutelage of manager Russell Martin, even though they are set for a mid-table finish in the Championship this season.

Martin believes that a player like Ampadu could be a good fit for his team and the style of play he has brought in at Swansea. With Chelsea open to the prospect of loaning the youngster out for another year, there is a good chance that the Welsh outfit could complete the capture of the 21-year-old come summer.
