PSG in talks to sign Romelu Lukaku

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly kickstarted talks with Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku over a potential summer move to the French capital.

According to 90 min, PSG have begun their operation to sign Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window. They have initiated talks to convince both Chelsea and the player, as the Parisian juggernaut look to reinforce their goalscoring options amid the uncertain future of star striker Kylian Mbappe.

PSG are aware of the fact that Lukaku is unsettled at Stamford Bridge. He rejoined the Blues last summer in a deal worth almost £100 million. But the move has not paid off for Chelsea, with the disgruntled Belgian forward struggling to replicate his performances in England, scoring only five league goals so far this term.

Lukaku is not happy with Thomas Tuchel’s tactics. There has also been a rift between the two for various reasons, which has compelled the Chelsea manager to try and get rid of the Belgian in the summer, along with another misfiring forward in Timo Werner.

Lukaku himself is keen on leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer. His priority is to rejoin Inter Milan as he has fond memories playing for the Nerazzurri. But the operation could be tricky for Inter due to the financial implications, with Chelsea likely to hold out for a hefty sum for the misfiring Belgian.

PSG, though, are in a position to splash the cash for Lukaku, who has been identified as a potential replacement for Mbappe. The Frenchman is facing an uncertain future at the club with his current deal expiring at the end of the season. PSG have tried their best to convince the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner to remain in Paris, but the forward remains keen on joining Real Madrid.

Mbappe’s potential exit could leave a major void in PSG’s attacking unit despite the presence of Lionel Messi and Neymar. And in an attempt to fill the void, PSG are intent on bringing in someone like Chelsea forward Lukaku.

Despite his struggles at Chelsea this season, the Belgian has a pedigree of performing at the highest level of football. He can thrive under the right tactical philosophy, and with Messi and Neymar supporting him in the final third, the striker could really make an impact in Ligue 1.
