Marco Asensio is reportedly ready to join Serie A giants AC Milan if he decides to leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Marco Asensio is not opposed to the idea of joining AC Milan in the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old is yet to sign a new contract with Real Madrid and a move to Serie A could be on the cards.

Marco Asensio has enjoyed a productive 2021/22 campaign at Real Madrid, producing a tally of ten goals and one assist in 35 appearances across all competitions. But the Spanish international is yet to nail down a spot in the starting lineup, with Carlo Ancelotti preferring Rodrygo Goes over him in the last few weeks.

To make matters worse, Asensio’s Real Madrid contract runs out in a little over a year, with talks over a contract renewal not progressing smoothly. And if the two parties cannot reach a consensus over the terms of a new deal in the next few months, the 26-year-old might leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. Such a situation has captured the attention of AC Milan.

AC Milan will likely delve into the market for a wide-attacker in the summer transfer window, with bolstering the right-wing berth a key objective. That is because Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias have blown hot and cold, despite producing many promising performances this season, prompting the Serie A giants to consider signing a new right-winger.

With Samu Castillejo destined to depart from San Siro in the summer transfer window, signing Asensio will be a step in the right direction. The Real Madrid forward could well elevate the levels of the Rossoneri’s squad, which will come as a much-needed boost as they continue to make waves in Serie A.

Recent reports have claimed that the Italian heavyweights have submitted a contract offer to the Spanish international, matching his current wages. But while Asensio is open to joining the Rossoneri, he wants a higher pay package to commit his future to a club, be it Real Madrid, AC Milan or another prospective suitor.

Several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, have also shown interest in Asensio. For now, though, Real Madrid will continue scrambling to secure the 26-year-old’s long-term future, with the AC Milan threat looming large heading into the summer transfer window.
