Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs keen on signing Brazilian forward Rodrygo Goes from Real Madrid in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Rodrygo Goes could leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window amid Los Blancos’ pursuit of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. The Brazilian forward has emerged as a target for several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool.

Rodrygo Goes spent his formative years in Brazil, where he garnered the reputation of being one of the brightest young prospects in the nation. Real Madrid invariably pursued Rodrygo before securing his services in July 2019. And the 21-year-old has since made gradual progress in his career.

The 2021/22 season has been difficult for Rodrygo, who has a sub-par tally of two goals and seven assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. But despite his recent shortcomings at Real Madrid, the Brazilian forward remains high on the agenda for several clubs across Europe, particularly from the Premier League, with Arsenal and Liverpool keen on signing him.

The interest from Liverpool stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the future of Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian forward is no closer to signing a new contract with Liverpool after recently rejecting a renewal offer. As a result, the Reds have been forced into the market for a wide-attacker, with Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio reportedly emerging as a replacement option.

Asensio’s Real Madrid teammate Rodrygo is also a viable target for Liverpool, who will need to fend off stiff competition from Arsenal to land the 21-year-old. Unlike Liverpool, Arsenal will likely pursue Rodrygo to bolster the first-team squad further instead of replacing an established star.

In Arsenal’s case, Nicolas Pepe faces an uncertain future at the Emirates, meaning Rodrygo could arrive as competition for Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli. Apart from Arsenal and Liverpool, the Real Madrid forward is also a target for Newcastle United, who will have a big summer transfer window in mind.

As for Rodrygo, the Brazilian international’s long-term Real Madrid future is up in the air amid the upcoming pursuit of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. It will be interesting to see if the player’s stint with Real Madrid ends in the summer transfer window, with Arsenal and Liverpool looking to launch a raid in such a scenario.
