Real Madrid will reportedly provide stiff competition to Serie A giants AC Milan in the race to sign 24-year-old Portuguese international Renato Sanches.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Renato Sanches is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old Portuguese international is also a target for Serie A giants AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

Renato Sanches was once heralded as a child prodigy when he became a key figure for Benfica while still in his teens. The then-teenage wonderkid subsequently earned a big move to Bayern Munich, which unfortunately did not work as envisioned. Sanches’s horror spell in Bavaria ended in August 2019, when he joined Lille.

The transfer to the Ligue 1 club has turned the 24-year-old’s career around, as he has rediscovered his best form while regaining his spot in the Portuguese national squad. Sanches has chipped in with six goals and ten assists in 84 appearances for Les Dogues. But his stint with Lille could end in the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid and AC Milan hot on his trail.

Real Madrid could enter the transfer market for a midfielder in the summer transfer window, as Dani Ceballos and Isco will likely depart the Santiago Bernabeu. In addition, with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos approaching the final phases of their respective careers, Real Madrid will need to lay down a succession plan for the two midfield stalwarts.

As a result, several midfielders, including Paul Pogba, have popped up on Real Madrid’s radar, with Sanches now emerging as a viable target. And the Spanish giants are providing stiff competition to AC Milan in the race to sign the 24-year-old Portuguese international from Lille in the summer transfer window.

The Serie A giants are in the market for a central midfielder as Franck Kessie will join Barcelona on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. Sanches is thus an option worth considering for AC Milan, although Real Madrid’s entry into the picture and competition from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain complicates matters for the Rossoneri.

As a result, the Serie A giants are keeping their options open, with Corentin Tolisso, coincidentally a target for Real Madrid, emerging as an alternative to Sanches. As for the 24-year-old Portuguese international, a bright future could be on the cards heading into the summer transfer window.
