AS Roma plot move for Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher

AS Roma are reportedly hoping to take advantage of Chelsea’s current situation, as they plot a move for Conor Gallagher in the summer.

According to Calciomercato, AS Roma are plotting a move for Conor Gallagher, as they hope to take advantage of Chelsea’s current situation. The English international has been sensational on loan at Crystal Palace this term, and plenty of clubs are likely to approach him if he becomes available.

Conor Gallagher is having a stellar time at Crystal Palace, where he is on loan from Chelsea. The midfielder has blossomed into one of the rising stars in England under Patrick Vieira, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in all competitions for the south London club.

Tipped to have a bright future in the game, Gallagher will be returning to Chelsea in the summer. At the same time, though, plenty of top clubs are expected to explore the opportunity to sign him from the Blues in the upcoming transfer window.

Things could get tricky for Chelsea in the summer, though, in light of the sanctions imposed by the UK Government on Chelsea on their owner Roman Abramovich due to his ties with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The imposed sanctions could affect Chelsea’s workings in the transfer market. Given the uncertain future surrounding Stamford Bridge, several players could consider their future with the Blues beyond the ongoing campaign.

That includes Gallagher, who will have to decide on his next step when the season ends. There is reported interest from AS Roma, who are hoping to take advantage of Chelsea’s condition and plot an approach. It is unclear whether the Italian side wants him on loan or permanently, which would be possible for a significant transfer fee.

Roma are keen on bolstering their squad in the summer, with the attacking midfield department, in particular, needing strengthening. Nicolo Zaniolo could be on his way out of Stadio Olimpico, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s contract also expires at the end of the season. It would leave the Giallorossi short on options in the creative midfield role, leading to their reported interest in Gallagher.

However, the capital club will need to be wary of interest from rivals Inter Milan and Juventus in the Chelsea star. At the same time, clubs from within England are also eyeing the 22-year-old, with Everton keen on signing the midfielder.

As for the interest from Roma, it might not lead to anything significant, considering the player may want to stay put in the Premier League in the long run. Moreover, the Italians may not be able to afford Chelsea’s asking price if they want him on a permanent transfer. However, they did pay up last summer for Tammy Abraham, who continues to have a great time in Serie A.
