La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly plotting a summer move for James Maddison, valued at around €80 million by Leicester City.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, James Maddison is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The English international, viewed as a potential Luka Modric successor, is valued at around €80 million by Leicester City.
James Maddison has gone from strength to strength since joining Leicester City from Norwich City in July 2018. Over the last three and a half years, the 25-year-old has been one of the most productive players in the Premier League. And he has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign thus far, amassing 13 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.
The English international is also growing in stature in his national side and might have made a statement with a stunning performance against Brentford last weekend. At the same time, Maddison seems to have captured the attention of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will delve into the transfer market for a creative midfielder in the summer transfer window. That is because Dani Ceballos and Isco face uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu and will likely leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window amid interest from clubs in Spain and Italy.
At the same time, the fact that Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are approaching the final phases of their respective careers will not be lost on Florentino Perez. The latest exhibition of the same came in last weekend’s heavy defeat to Barcelona in the final El Clasico of the season.
Modric, in particular, is in the twilight of his illustrious career and might only have a few years at the top level. And while Real Madrid could soon reach an agreement with the Croat over a contract extension, he could quickly start getting phased out as a regular, which brings Maddison into the picture.
But signing the English international will cost a bomb, as Leicester City will demand €80 million to offload him. With Real Madrid reserving most of the summer funds towards pursuing Erling Haaland, it is unclear if they will manage to shell out €80 million to snap up Maddison in the summer transfer window.
