Barcelona interested in Danilo

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are weighing up the prospect of signing 30-year-old Brazilian international Danilo in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Danilo is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. But the cost of snapping up the Brazilian international could complicate matters for the Blaugrana.

Danilo has resurrected his stuttering career since joining Juventus from Manchester City in August 2019. After struggling to establish himself as a regular for Real Madrid and Manchester City, the 30-year-old finally found a stable footing for the first time since leaving FC Porto, even though he has not been an undisputed first-choice option for the Bianconeri.

To date, the Brazilian international has turned out over 100 times for Juventus, impressing with his ability to play as a makeshift centre-back. With Danilo being a rare consistent performer during a difficult period for the Serie A giants, several clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, have set their sights on him.

Interestingly, Barcelona had been keen on signing Danilo last summer, although a move did not materialise. The interest in the 30-year-old Brazilian international has not waned much in the past year, with Danilo’s consistent performances strengthening Barcelona’s resolve to pursue him.

Bolstering the right-back slot is imperative for Barcelona, as Sergino Dest faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou despite some impressive performances lately. In addition. with Dani Alves in the twilight of his career and Sergi Roberto likely to depart Camp Nou as a free agent, the Blaugrana will have to sign at least one right-back.

Noussair Mazraoui is Barcelona’s priority target, with the Ajax defender keen on joining them. In addition to Mazraoui, the Catalan giants have also been pursuing Cesar Azpilicueta. But Chelsea will soon trigger a one-year option in the Spaniard’s contract, meaning he is unlikely to join Barcelona in the summer. Danilo is a viable like-for-like alternative.

But Barcelona might fail in the pursuit of the 30-year-old Brazilian international as Juventus will likely demand a sizable fee to part with him. The Serie A heavyweights are also keen on tying Danilo to a new contract, thus complicating matters further for Barcelona.
