Barcelona and PSG have reportedly been handed a major boost in pursuit of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, who is open to joining the two clubs.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Mohamed Salah would not be opposed to the idea of joining Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window. The Egyptian forward faces an uncertain future at Liverpool amid protracted contract renewal talks.

Mohamed Salah has established himself as one of the best players in Europe since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in July 2017. From being a promising winger to a prolific goalscorer, the 29-year-old has come a long way in the last four and a half years, playing a key role in Liverpool’s ascent during this period.

The Egyptian international has enjoyed a fantastic 2021/22 season thus far, amassing 28 goals and ten assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. But Salah’s contract situation puts Liverpool in a spot of bother, as he has entered the final 18 months of his deal. And the prospect of signing the player on a cut-price deal has alerted Barcelona and PSG.

The interest from Barcelona stems from the intense competition for the services of Erling Haaland, their priority target for the summer transfer window. With the Blaugrana intent on signing a prolific forward ahead of the 2022/23 season amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Martin Braithwaite and Luuk de Jong, the Liverpool talisman has emerged as a viable target.

The initial contacts between Barcelona and Salah have already been established, and the Catalan giants have received a positive response from the 29-year-old’s camp. But Barcelona will have to fend off stiff competition from PSG to secure the services of the Liverpool forward.

Les Parisiens are reportedly eyeing Salah as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is on the verge of joining Real Madrid on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Liverpool forward is one of very few attackers who can fill the void left by the departure of the Frenchman. And Salah is tempted by the prospect of joining PSG.

The report also suggests that the Egyptian wing-wizard is open to joining Barcelona as long as the Blaugrana and Liverpool reach an agreement over a summer transfer. But with Jurgen Klopp urging Liverpool fans to remain patient, one would imagine that the Reds might fancy their chances of tying Salah down to a bumper new contract.
