La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly been offered the chance to re-sign enterprising 30-year-old Brazilian forward Neymar.

According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Neymar has been offered to former club Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are keen on getting rid of the enterprising 30-year-old forward ahead of a major rebuild before the 2022/23 season.

Neymar sent shockwaves across Europe and beyond when he left Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record transfer in August 2017. The move was touted to be a game-changer for PSG, who had been desperately chasing the elusive UEFA Champions League following the big Qatari takeover.

The chase continues to this day, with Neymar enduring an underwhelming stint thus far. The 30-year-old has missed over 100 games for PSG due to a spate of injuries, with his performance levels steadily waning as a result. And the Brazilian forward has reached his lowest ebb as a PSG player this season, managing a paltry record of five goals and five assists in 20 appearances.

Things have gone from bad to worse this month, with PSG bowing out of the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid despite going 2-0 up in their tie. That seemed to be the last straw for PSG fans, who have not taken kindly to Les Parisiens’ ouster, hurling jeers at Neymar and former Barcelona captain Lionel Messi this past weekend in the win over Bordeaux.

With Neymar reaching his lowest point at Parc des Princes, a summer departure could be on the cards, with PSG desperate to offload him ahead of the 2022/23 season. And the Ligue 1 giants have offered the enterprising Brazilian forward to former club Barcelona.

The Catalan giants have coincidentally been linked with Neymar this month, although the report by Foot Mercato suggests they are not yet considering a move for the 30-year-old. Barcelona will instead target a prolific forward, with Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, and Mohamed Salah among the players on their radar.

Neymar recently revealed that he had previously made failed attempts to rejoin Barcelona despite his acrimonious exit from Camp Nou. But it looks like a fairytale return to Camp Nou might not be on the cards unless Barcelona’s stance on re-signing him changes in the coming weeks and months.
