La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly submitted a deal worth €6.5 million per year to AC Milan midfield powerhouse Franck Kessie.
According to reputed Italian journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio’s official website, Catalan giants Barcelona have stepped up their efforts to sign Franck Kessie on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window by offering a contract worth €6.5 million per year to the AC Milan midfield sensation.
Franck Kessie has progressed considerably since moving to AC Milan from Atalanta. The Ivory Coast international initially completed a two-year loan deal to San Siro in 2017 before joining the Serie A heavyweights permanently in July 2019. In the last four and a half years, the 25-year-old has been instrumental in the Rossoneri’s gradual advent in the top-flight.
With Milan now one of the favourites to win the Serie A title this season, Kessie has been one of the protagonists in their solid campaign, even chipping in with six goals and one assist in 26 outings across all competitions. But the Italian giants are in a spot of bother over the Ivorian midfielder’s long-term future, as he has entered the final six months of his contract, with his situation alerting Barcelona.
The interest from Barcelona stems from the advancing years of Sergio Busquets. While the veteran midfielder has shown some signs of resurgence playing under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez, the fact that he is in the twilight of his storied career will not be lost on the Barcelona manager.
As a result, Barcelona will need to enter the market for a midfielder in the summer transfer window, making Kessie a viable target. The 25-year-old midfield powerhouse will likely replace Riqui Puig, recently linked with Serie A giants Napoli, in the scheme of things before taking over from Sergio Busquets.
The Catalan giants have now stepped up their efforts to secure the services of Kessie, submitting a deal worth €6.5 million per year. And with Kessie reportedly keen on joining Barcelona, chances are that the Blaugrana could reach an agreement with him sooner rather than later.
For now, what appears certain is that Kessie will leave AC Milan as a free agent in the summer transfer window. And with talks between the 25-year-old and Barcelona reportedly progressing smoothly, the La Liga heavyweights will hope that their €6.5 million-a-year contract offer will do the trick for them.
