Real Madrid considering Bernardo Silva move

La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up the prospect of signing Bernardo Silva from Manchester City in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Bernardo Silva is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Merengues are lining up the Portuguese playmaker as a potential replacement for Dani Ceballos and Isco.

Bernardo Silva first burst onto the limelight when he guided AS Monaco to a shock Ligue 1 title in the 2016/17 season. Since then, the 27-year-old has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as one of the best playmakers in Europe, especially following his move to Manchester City in July 2017.

The Portuguese international has enjoyed an excellent 2021/22 campaign, amassing ten goals and three assists in 35 appearances across all competitions. But despite finding a stable footing after the mounting uncertainties last summer, Silva might still leave Manchester City ahead of the 2022/23 season, with Real Madrid showing an interest in him.

Real Madrid’s decision to pursue Silva stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the futures of Isco and Dani Ceballos. While the former appears destined to depart the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent, the latter might be on his way to embark on a new adventure after a few frustrating years with Real Madrid.

As a result, several midfielders, including Jude Bellingham, have been heavily linked with Real Madrid, with Silva also emerging as a viable target. And the Manchester City playmaker might end up becoming the ideal successor to Luka Modric, as he resembles the Croatian international’s playing style quite closely.

Real Madrid’s chances of snapping up the 27-year-old could also be high, considering claims from recent reports suggesting that he dreams of joining Los Blancos. But Manchester City could yet play spoilsport in negotiations with Real Madrid over a possible summer move.

The Portuguese playmaker’s current contract runs out in 2025, with Pep Guardiola even backing him to sign a renewal. In such a scenario, Manchester City could ask Real Madrid to pay a premium to land Silva, which could ultimately force the Merengues to end their interest in him.
