Real Madrid consider selling Ferland Mendy

La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up the prospect of selling Ferland Mendy in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Ferland Mendy could be on his way out of Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. The Merengues have not taken kindly to being pressured to increase the 26-year-old defender’s wages and could sanction his sale.

Ferland Mendy joined Real Madrid from Lyon in July 2019 and took little time to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Frenchman usurped Marcelo quickly to become Los Blancos’ first-choice left-back in his maiden campaign and has since largely gone from strength to strength.

To date, the 26-year-old has made 94 appearances for Real Madrid, chipping in with four goals and six assists in the process. But despite his exploits for the Merengues in the last two and a half years, Mendy could be on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window.

According to the report, Mendy and his entourage are putting pressure on Real Madrid to increase his wages while still being on a long-term contract. That has not gone down well at the Spanish club, who are now weighing up the prospect of cashing in on the French international in the summer transfer window.

The Merengues have recently been heavily linked with several left-backs, including Raphael Guerreiro. But those links primarily stem from the uncertainties surrounding the future of Marcelo, who could leave Real Madrid as a free agent after the ongoing season ends.

The Real Madrid captain has been linked with several Brazilian clubs, while also popping up on the radar of MLS outfit Inter Miami. And if the Spanish giants sanction Mendy’s sale, signing a top-class left-back will become imperative for them heading into the summer transfer window.

With the 26-year-old defender currently on a contract that runs until June 2025, Real Madrid will likely charge a premium to offload Mendy. For now, the update by SPORT comes as a massive surprise, considering the French international’s stature at the Santiago Bernabeu.
