Inter Milan are reportedly keeping tabs on Andreas Christensen’s situation at Chelsea, as the defender could leave on a free transfer in the summer.

According to PianetaMilan, Inter Milan could make a move for Andreas Christensen if his situation at Chelsea does not change. The Danish star is primed to leave the Blues on a free transfer in the summer, although plenty of other big teams are also vying for his signature.

Chelsea are set to embark on a hugely important summer window as they seek to find replacements for several first-team stars. One of the main areas of focus would be central defence where some crucial players could depart in the summer.

Three defenders have their contracts expiring in June, with Thomas Tuchel keen on replacing them with adequate quality. Antonio Rudiger headlines those in the departure lounge and remains in the company of Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen.

At one point, the Danish defender seemed close to agreeing on a new deal at Stamford Bridge, but things on the renewal front have gone relatively quiet. There is significant interest in the defender from clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich, with Inter Milan now joining the chase in a bid to prise the centre-back away from Chelsea.

While the reasons for not extending with Chelsea remain a mystery considering the Dane has been playing quite frequently under Tuchel, he could be a quality signing at some other big club. Inter Milan could have some problems at the back before next season, with all three of their centre-backs linked with a move away.

Stefan de Vrij, Alessandro Bastoni, and Milan Skriniar have been linked with potential summer departures. Given how important the trio is, even if one left, Inter would need proper replacements. In such a case, Christensen could be a fantastic option to consider as he has the quality to fill the void created by any potential departures.

Chelsea are already lining up targets to replenish their centre-back department, with Wesley Fofana, Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt mentioned as potential targets.

Christensen would be a bargain signing considering he will arrive on a free transfer. Such an incoming would please Inter, given their recent financial struggles. It remains to be seen if the Dane prefers a move to Italy or joins his suitors from Spain or elsewhere. As for Chelsea, it would be a blow to lose a player of his quality for free.
