Everton have emerged as a potential destination for Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour, with Frank Lampard eyeing a reunion next season.

According to Calciomercato, a reunion could be on the cards for Frank Lampard and Billy Gilmour next season, with the Chelsea midfielder emerging on the radar of Everton. The young midfielder is currently plying his trade at Norwich City on loan, but he is set to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Along with Conor Gallagher, Gilmour is on the list of three Premier League midfielders Lampard is targeting next summer, with the recently appointed Everton manager particularly keen on shoring up his options in the middle of the park.

Formerly of the Rangers academy, Gilmour is regarded as one of the most gifted up and coming talents in Scottish football. Although the midfielder is far from a finished product, he has impressed onlookers with his quality on the ball and the ability to rotate possession. It has helped him earn 15 Premier League appearances for Norwich City, 11 of which have come under new coach Dean Smith.

However, despite his success at Norwich City, the midfielder’s future at Chelsea remain unresolved. While the 20-year-old is rated highly by Thomas Tuchel, it is apparent that the Chelsea manager favours more proven talents at his disposal next season, having already targeted the likes of Marco Verratti, among many others.

It has put question marks on his future at Stamford Bridge, with Everton ready to pounce if the opportunity arises. It appears the Toffees’ new manager Frank Lampard is keen on a reunion with Gilmour, having worked together during their time at Chelsea before the Englishman was eventually sacked at the start of last year.

Unlike Chelsea, Everton could be in a position to offer Gilmour regular game-time as they prepare for life without Jean-Philippe Gbamin. The former Mainz starlet has struggled with injuries and has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park, with CSKA Moscow emerging as a potential destination.

The addition of Gilmour could prove to be a smart piece of business by the Merseyside giants, who are hoping to revamp their squad and find success under Lampard next season. However, Everton could face major resistance from Chelsea in the pursuit of the youngster, as the Blues will be determined not to offload one of their major young prospects to a direct league rival.

Gilmour certainly isn’t the only option, though, with Lampard also remaining keen on the services of VfL Wolfsburg starlet Aster Vranckx, among many others.
