Real Madrid reportedly scouted 29-year-old Spanish goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco in their recent La Liga meeting with Deportivo Alaves.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Fernando Pacheco is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The La Liga heavyweights consider the 29-year-old Deportivo Alaves goalkeeper as a potential replacement for Andriy Lunin.

Fernando Pacheco spent his formative years with C. D. Obandino and Flecha Negra before moving to Real Madrid. While the Spanish shot-stopper excelled for Los Blancos’ age-group side and Real Madrid Castilla, he could not establish a foothold in the first-team setup due to the presence of Iker Casillas.

It is after joining Deportivo Alaves in August 2015 that the 29-year-old has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga. To date, Pacheco has made 241 appearances for Alaves, keeping 74 clean sheets in the process. The Spaniard’s progress in the last six and a half years has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid closely monitoring him.

Real Madrid might need to enter the market for a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window amid the uncertainties surrounding the future of Andriy Lunin. The Ukrainian goalkeeper is discontent at the Santiago Bernabeu after failing to feature prominently. Instead, he has either been sent out on loan or relegated to the bench for the most part.

As a result, Lunin is keen on embarking on a new challenge in the summer transfer window, with AS Roma reportedly one of the clubs keen on signing him. Real Madrid will thus need to keep their options open heading into the summer transfer window, which is why they have been scouting several goalkeepers lately.

Fernando Pacheco is one of the shot-stoppers to emerge on Real Madrid’s radar, with Los Blancos scouting the 29-year-old in person in their recent La Liga clash with Deportivo Alaves. Real Madrid won the game 3-0, but Pacheco was impressive, as he has often been in his stint with the Basque outfit.

With Alaves in a precarious position in the La Liga standings, Real Madrid might fancy their chances of prising Pacheco away from the Mendizorrotza in the summer transfer window. But a move for the 29-year-old depends on Lunin’s future, with Pacheco the preferred option to replace the frustrated Ukrainian goalkeeper.
