Memphis Depay is reportedly open to rejoining former club Lyon from Barcelona, with his entourage in contact with the French outfit.

According to a report by French outlet Le Quotidien Du Sport, Memphis Depay is weighing up the prospect of returning to Lyon in the summer transfer window. The Barcelona forward is already in contact with his former club, with the Ligue 1 outfit’s president Jean-Michel Aulas seriously considering re-signing the Dutchman.

Memphis Depay joined Barcelona on a Bosman move last summer following four and a half years with Lyon. But the move to Catalonia has not worked out as envisioned for the Dutch international, who has been extremely inconsistent following a strong start to his stint with the Blaugrana.

The 28-year-old has a sub-par record of eight goals and two assists in 23 appearances across all competitions, with his performances in the UEFA Champions League leaving a lot to be desired. Depay’s stock at Barcelona could have fallen further following their acquisition of Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the January transfer window.

Depay is yet to feature for Barcelona since the January transfer window shut down, although that is due to a hamstring injury. But recent reports have claimed that the player is considering quitting Barcelona after just one year at Camp Nou, which could capture the attention of several clubs across Europe.

It has now emerged that former club Lyon could be his next destination, with Depay’s entourage already establishing contact with the Ligue 1 outfit. Considering Les Gones’ struggles since his departure last summer, the 28-year-old could be a welcome addition at the Groupama Stadium.

While they have recovered considerably in recent weeks, Lyon might miss out on European football altogether, considering only four points separate fifth-placed Nantes and 11th-placed Montpellier.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is open to the prospect of re-signing Depay from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. They could face stiff competition from rivals Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Depay, with the Ligue 1 leaders reportedly plotting a summer swoop. But with Depay keenly considering a return to his former club, a move to the Groupama Stadium could be on the horizon for the 28-year-old.
