William Gallas has told Chelsea not to pursue a move for Barcelona midfield maestro Frenkie de Jong in the ongoing transfer window.
William Gallas has urged Chelsea to look beyond Frenkie de Jong in the ongoing transfer window. The former Chelsea defender has also suggested a few alternatives to the west London club while asserting that the Blues do not need a player of the Barcelona midfielder’s profile this summer.
As quoted by Sports Illustrated, Gallas said, “De Jong is a great player. He is still Young but he is so experienced in the way he player. I don’t think Chelsea should have gone for someone of that profile though. They already have players like him.”
“They should go for someone like Casemiro or Rodri instead. They are strong guys who stay in front of their defenders. They have good impacts physically as well. That is why I would not sign de Jong, because they already have players who a little bit similar.”
Frenkie de Jong has been a highly sought-after player in the market this summer through no fault of his own, with Barcelona desperately looking to cash in on him in the ongoing transfer window. But with the Blaugrana struggling to lighten the wage bill while pursuing Bernardo Silva, selling de Jong is the viable option for them.
The 25-year-old midfield maestro has unsurprisingly emerged as a target for several European bigwigs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain. But de Jong does not want to leave Barcelona, even though the Catalan giants have issued an ultimatum to him over his situation.
But despite his reluctance to leave, de Jong is reportedly closing in on joining Chelsea. However, the Blues might not end up signing the Barcelona midfielder this summer if they pay heed to Gallas’s advice. That said, some of the players Gallas has mentioned as alternatives are unavailable in the market.

With Jorginho and N’Golo Kante facing uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge, it is unclear if Chelsea will end the summer transfer window without signing a midfielder. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if Frenkie de Jong joins Chelsea from Barcelona this summer or if the Blues turn away from the Barcelona midfielder.
