Tottenham Hotspur have dropped their pursuit of the signatures of 25-year-old Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand.

Morten Hjulmand has been in sensational form in the ongoing season. The 25-year-old midfielder’s sensational performances in his debut season with Sporting CP have attracted a lot of attention and he could be on the move in the upcoming window.

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs that have been linked with the Danish international. Spurs are looking to go big in the summer to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s squad and Hjulmand is one of the names that has been on their radar of late. But, according to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio Spurs have dropped their interest in the 25-year-old.

Di Marizo said via Tipsbladet: “Tottenham were previously linked with him, but they are no longer interested in him.”

Hjulmand has been on fire since joining Sporting

Hjulmand had an impressive rise at Italian club Lecce before making the move to Sporting ahead of the 2023/24 season. The 25-year-old slotted straight into Rúben Amorim’s well-oiled team and he has gone from strength to strength since.

Not only has he established himself as a mainstay, but the 25-year-old defensive midfielder has been the star man for Amorim’s team. They are leading the race for the league title and Hjulmand has played a big part in it.

He has featured in 37 matches for the Portuguese club and has even contributed towards six goals. The defensive mid’s impressive performances have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.

Spurs drop interest in the 25-year-old

Spurs are one of the clubs that have been linked with him for a while now. They had an impressive start under Postecoglou but lack of depth restricted their progress. As a result, the North London club are expected to make a lot of moves in the summer.

While Hjulmand was one of their targets to reinforce their midfield, the 25-year-old is no longer in their plans. They will be looking elsewhere for options to bolster their squad. Meanwhile, this could be a boost for Barcelona who are looking to sign Amorim and Hjulmand in the summer.
