Thierry Henry has suggested that Xavi Hernandez is stopping a volcano from erupting at the Catalan club amid the latest setbacks.

As quoted by Daily Mirror, Thierry Henry has spoken about the clamour around Xavi Hernandez and his position as the Barcelona manager. The Barcelona legend has suggested that his former teammate is stopping a volcano from erupting at Camp Nou.

Barcelona entered the 2022/23 season with a lot of optimism following their summer spending spree. Game-changers like Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde arrived at Camp Nou. And the club’s fanbase was hopeful of a memorable campaign, especially after a strong start in La Liga.

But the optimism has withered following a dismal UEFA Champions League campaign. The Catalan giants have won just one of their first five games, failing to beat Inter Milan and Bayern Munich. As a result, Barcelona will drop to the UEFA Europa League for a second successive season.

The latest setback came in a comprehensive defeat to Bayern Munich, which sealed Barcelona’s fate. And Thierry Henry has made intriguing suggestions, claiming Xavi is stopping a volcano from erupting at Camp Nou. The Barcelona legend also drew comparisons between Xavi and Steven Gerrard, who recently lost his job at Aston Villa.

“Look at the end of the day result matters, we’ve seen it with Steven Gerrard. The problem at Barcelona is that you don’t have time. But yeah, let me tell you if it was another coach right now at Barcelona, dealing with what’s happening, it would have been a volcano even more than what it is… the volcano would have erupted. But because it’s Xavi, it’s kind of okay.”

“They are second in the league. We all know [Robert] Lewandowski should have scored at Bayern but it’s not his [Xavi] fault that Lewandowski missed three chances and it’s not his fault if they didn’t call the penalty on [Denzel] Dumfries, but you’re the coach at Barcelona and you’re going to be judged. Barca have gambled on the Champions League and they need that money because of what they did in the summer.”

Xavi is reportedly under pressure at FC Barcelona following the latest setback. And recent reports have claimed that the Catalan giants are considering their options, with Luis Enrique emerging on their radar. It will be interesting to see if Xavi retains his place as the Barcelona manager despite the recent shortcomings.
